Menorca's Climate

Menorca has typical Mediterranean weather, with mild winters and hot summers. After the winter rains and storms, Menorca/ Minorca blooms with meadows of blue cornflowers, yellow marguerites and bright red poppies. The summers are dry and hot with as much as 11 hours of sunshine each day and temperatures reaching 28ºC in July and August. From November thru to February Menorca becomes cooler with more rain falling particularly on the higher ground. The island is effected by the (sometimes strong) northerly "tramuntana" winds that cool the climate especially in the winter.

The average summer temperature is 24ºC. The winter average is 11ºC. The average annual temperature is aproximately 17º celcius. The average annual rainfall is between 450 mms in the south eastern region and 650 mms in the central and the north eastern region. Rainfall distribution isn't the same every year although the maximum seasonal rainfall is in the autumn.

Menorca is the wettest and the coolest of the Balearic islands since it is further north and further out to sea than the other islands.
